STELLAR NEW WORK FROM THE STUDENTS AT
THE CENTER FOR CARTOON STUDIES

I Know Joe Kimpel is the place to find all the hot new work and amazing new
voices coming out of the Center for Cartoon Studies. Check out an impressive
new release, see the new artists we've added, and read the high praise already
being received by our students' books.

MONSTERS #2 TO DEBUT AT A.P.E.

“Ominously absorbing”
“Exemplifies why they hand out Ignatzs”

-The Comics Journal

“Everything is just on, so everything just flows…
Monsters is an incredible read”

-Indie Spinner Rack

ABOUT MONSTERS: The second issue of Ken Dahl's 2006 Ignatz Award-winning minicomic about STDs and all their wonderful, mysterious horrors. This issue begins the story's sudden and precipitous drop into genuine awfulness, as a virus drives its wedge between two perfectly normal and tragically ignorant young lovers: A must-read for anyone with genitalia.

RESOUNDING THUMBS UP FOR LA PRIMAVERA

Not only did Monsters #1 receive the Ignatz Award, but it was also on The Comics Journal’s list of the Best Comics of 2006. Only eight other self-published books made the cut, including our own Alexis Frederick-Frost’s Xeric-award winning debut graphic novel, La Primavera.

“This is student work? Jesus, these CCS kids
are gonna come and destroy us all.”

-Matt Bernier at www.matt-bernier.com

“Handsome”
“Elegant streamlining of the chaos of athletic competition”

-The Comics Journal

“(La Primavera) is beautiful...
It’s so well done.”

-Indie Spinner Rack

ABOUT LA PRIMAVERA: La Primavera is the story of a grueling bicycle race through the mountains of Italy, back in the early 20th Century. These races had no support cars and no sponsored teams. Competitors had to carry all the water, tools, and spare tires they needed either on their bikes or on their backs, as they tested the limits of human-powered travel.

ABOUT I KNOW JOE KIMPEL: We are a creators’ collective founded by and for the students at the Center for Cartoon Studies. The first class is set to graduate this May, and we plan on sticking around the independent comics arena for some time to come. I Know Joe Kimpel is our home online, where people can come find out about our new books, art, and comics-related projects as our careers expand past the doors of CCS.

In addition to the minicomics store, we’ve just added a new blog to I Know Joe Kimpel to deliver news on all of the comics-related happenings in White River Junction. Over the past two years CCS has hosted a huge number of visiting artists, from Chris Ware, Seth, and Ivan Brunetti to Kevin Huizenga and Anders Nilson, to Brian Walker (Beetle Bailey, Hi and Lois) and Bill Griffith (Zippy the Pinhead), among dozens of others. We aim to keep a running commentary on all the exciting events and new ideas being generated by our little school in the woods of Vermont.

There are going to be a number of highly skilled and highly talented CCS students rolling out their premiere books in the coming months leading up to MoCCA, so keep checking back for updates. These young artists are going to be names to remember for many years to come, and I Know Joe Kimpel is where to find their work.
