It was fun! But I’ve only gotten one pic of our table so far, from the illustrious Bob Oxman of Smuttynose fame, so here it is:

Josh Rosen, Penina Gal, Bob Oxman, and Emily Wieja point out interesting military stuff up in the rafters at the Armory.

Actually this photo is sort of awesome because it shows a good view of the IKJK table and all our wares, as well as being a stunning shot of some key IKJK players. However, if anyone has any more pics feel free to send em to me!

New 4-Square anthology ‘Future’ to debut at MoCCA 2010

As some of you may have noticed, IKJK has been producing a series of 4-Square anthologies for a while now- basically we gather four different artists and have them each create a story inspired by one loose theme. Our latest offering is called Future and it’s really special because it brings in some truly innovative and awesome artists…when putting together this book we tried to focus on artists who were doing unusual stuff, and we think the end result is a refreshing and unique anthology. Here are some sample pages to tease you until next week, when you can get your hands on a finished copy of your very own at MoCCA Festival 2010!

The amazing Jason Overby contributed the story Shark…his frantic pen lines are bursting with energy and tension.

Jennifer Tong’s story Virtual Date is sad, bittersweet, and moving, and complemented by her beautiful rendering.

José-Luis Olivares contributes First Flower, a metaphysical tale framed by lovely composition and forms.

Emily Wieja’s story Mirror employs bold shapes and splashes of negative space to evoke a stark atmosphere.

The covers will actually be black with gold foil transfer in place of the yellow above, for a striking effect. You can snag a copy at MoCCA for only $5- after that the cover price will go up to $7 and will be available for online ordering.

IKJK at the Silent Barn comics event!

This past weekend some notable IKJK artists attended the Comics 101 event at the Silent Barn in Queens, NY. Colleen Frakes and Jon Chad hosted a cartooning workshop and Mario van Buren, Caitlin Plovnick, Ross Studlar, Emily Wieja and others attended a basement book-signing. All in all it was a good time and a fun reunion!

CCS Pioneers reunion!!

We’ve just added books to the site by the amazing Ross Studlar so be sure to check those out, his new book The Raven and the Crayfish is great! Also, Colleen Frakes has just released Color Comics, a cool new collection of reprinted material from BASH! Magazine, Myspace Dark Horse Presents and Seven Days. Sketchbook Pages from Mario

After making the first run of Dark Corners there were substantial enough paper scraps that they could be made into little skull & eyeball-wrapped sketchbooks. I’ve been carrying mine with me around the city, and it’s just the right size to pop out of my bag and rattle off a few sketches waiting for trains, etc.

Dark Corners, our latest 4-Square book, along with the new anthology Funny Aminals, will be having a joint mini-tour later in October. Dates will be:

Friday October 16th: Desert Island in NYC (Williamsburg, Bk), 7pm-9pm

Saturday October 17th: Hub Comics in Boston (Union Square, Somerville), 7pm-9pm

Sunday October 18th: Ada Books, Providence RI, 2pm-4pm

And we’re going to be giving away some free gifts with purchase! A copy of the gorgeous tour poster by Ignatz-winning artist Cat Garza will be available with purchase of Funny Aminals, and a limited-edition Dark Corners blank notebook/sketchbook will be given away with each purchase of Dark Corners.

Sadly, I won’t be at the I Know Joe Kimpel table at SPX this year, but I will be close enough to throw paper airplanes at them.

Ok, and my comic book Woman King got nominated for one of those award-thingies for Promising New Talent. If you happen to be there, it would be nice if you voted for me. Or, anyone really. Everyone who was nominated in that category is pretty amazing.
