Sundays, Sundays, Sundays!

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

“Sundays,” the big hit of MoCCA last weekend, is now up for sale right here on IKJK.

The book is gorgeous, with work from nearly all of the IKJK artists, plus Stephen R. Bissette’s wrap-up of the Tyrant saga. A must-have, this book will introduce you to a slew of young talent poised to make some big noise in the comics field in the next couple of years.

New Books!

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

We’ve got a lot of new books in the store after MoCCA, so we’ll be writing about them here. A lot of these books are the products of two years of study at CCS, and an entire year’s worth of focused work on just these projects. You’re going to see leaps and bounds in some artists’ abilities, starting with:

¡¡¡¡¡¡Caitlin Plovnick!!!!!!!

“Dead Air is a comical comic about a group of music lovers and their efforts to feel important when they haven’t actually done anything important.”

Caitlin’s an amazing cartoonist, and this story is in addition to her Creepy Loser minicomics, which have been some of our hottest sellers to date.

Patrick McDonnell’s Graduation Speech

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

I missed it by a day, but it’s still up on the main page over at The Comics Reporter.

Tom Spurgeon posted the week of Mutts leading up to CCS graduation day, and right below that he posts McDonnell’s speech. It was posted June 19th, so you can either scroll down, or just select by date once is gets pushed down off the main page.

Sunday, Inky Sunday

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

The Sundays Anthology guys have been working like madmen these past few days to have what may in fact be The Coolest Thing Ever ready for MoCCA. If you’re heading that way, be sure to check them out at table #A45. And if you’re not going to be at MoCCA, well, ain’t it lucky for you that Sundays will be available from IKJK!

Here’s Alex “A-Train” Kim printing the cover:

And voila, finished covers drying on the CCS rack!

Hopefully they’ll like this post enough that they won’t mind my hotlinking their photos (taken by Chuck “McBuck” Forsman).

A Whole Lotta IKJK on Myrant

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

We here at I Know Joe Kimpel have fallen behind as of late on our mad, incestuous, cross-linking frenzy, being as occupied as we are with our dvds of the OC. However I wanted to point out a slew of recent interviews on Steve’s Bissette’s blog Myrant with various IKJK artists, all of which are sure to allow you to get to know these enigmatic souls in a particularly intimate way. First up is Alex Joon Kim - read all about his fascinating history and buy his new book in the IKJK store.

Next up is Alexis Frederick-Frost, who reported just the other day on this blog about his adventures in Montreal as a Drawn & Quarterly intern. His La Primavera is for sale now and his new book will up at the IKJK site after MoCCA so bookmark his page!

And let’s not forget Caitlin Plovnick, a talent to watch out for. Her new book, Dead Air, will also be for sale after MoCCA at IKJK but in the meantime she has several fascinating minis for sale to tide you over.

Whew, I guess that’s it! Thanks Steve, for taking the time to interview these fine young artists and share their unique insights with the world! I’m sure we’re all the better for them.

Sam “the Gaskinator” Gaskin

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

Next in the string of interviews on MyRant is the wondermousiful Sam Gaskin. Sam loves Thanksgiving because everything is his mother (Tell me about it! Woooo!).

Learn all about the Xeric-winning future superstar! We’ll have Pizza Wizard availalbe for sale on IKJK immediately after MoCCA.

CCS Student Work at Arts Crafts and Jackalopes

Saturday, June 9th, 2007

The Main Street Museum is proud to announce “Arts, Crafts, and Jackalopes, ” a month- long exhibition celebrating the handiwork of some of the Upper Valley’s most talented women artists. The show features photography; paintings; apparel; accessories; jewelry; log cabin quilts; and soft sculpture.

Here are some of Judith’s quilts and Elizabeth’s photographs. I am always amazed by people who can quilt- the math involved is terrifying!

More of Elizabeth’s photographs. She really has an amazing eye.

And she makes books too! And sews! Every one of her “Dead Pets” books comes with a hand sewn pet- a fish, a bird or a gerbil.

Josie does amazing things with yarn. I don’t know if she knits or crochets (I’m not 100% sure what the difference is either) but I do know that it’s all adorable. Look at the seal hat!

Marion’s hats and jewelry- which she does not charge enough for!

I painted giant girl superhero sidekicks. It seemed appropriate. You can see more of Judith’s quilts in this picture, too.

My first, and probably last, experiment with oil paints. I don’t like them.

Ahh, good old gouache. The Mary Marvel redesign is loosely based on Bethany, since I figure if Mary Marvel were a real person, she’d be the kind of girl that’d run track. The Batgirl painting was originally going to be Black Canary (she’s my favorite girl hero) but got frustrated with the limited color scheme of her costume. Supergirl was just fun. Look, she has a fanny pack!

Sigrid not only creates beautiful, tiny paintings, but is also classy enough to get them framed.

Gabby, in his box. This was the best part of the night.

You can also read more about the event on Steve’s blog, or Josie’s.
