Denis St. John, Colleen Frakes, Emily Wieja and Lauren O’Connell from I Know Joe Kimpel were all at APE, and we had an amazing time!

If you didn’t see us there, it might be because we forgot our banners.

I ran to Walgreens and bought some markers and a roll of craft paper, and we made a NEW banner, ten times better than the old one! Hand turkeys make everything better.

Here are some highlights from the trip:

#1 Meeting Matt Groening!

As an alumni of The Evergreen State College, Matt Groening, the creator of Life in Hell and The Simpsons, and fellow Geoduck is one of my heroes. So, when I saw him walk by our table I couldn’t help but call him over and gush and try to give him copies of my books for free. He wouldn’t take the freebies, but he did buy copies of good number of what we had out on the table! This was the highlight of the trip for me. Apologies to anyone I run into for the next couple of weeks, because I can’t stop talking about it.

#2 Free beer!

Across the street from APE at this place called Mars Bar, there was a release party for a book called that I think was called Dr. Graves, a Google search has turned up nothing. But there were free drinks and creepy masks to be had!

#3 Reunion!

It was great to hang out with all of the fellow CCS alumni, now that we’ve scattered to the far corners. I miss you guys!
