New 4-Square anthology ‘Future’ to debut at MoCCA 2010
As some of you may have noticed, IKJK has been producing a series of 4-Square anthologies for a while
now- basically we gather four different artists and have them each create a story inspired by one loose theme. Our latest offering is called Future and it’s really special because it brings in some truly innovative and awesome artists…when putting together this book we tried to focus on artists who were doing unusual stuff, and we think the end result is a refreshing and unique anthology. Here are some sample pages to tease you until next week, when you can get your hands on a finished copy of your very own at MoCCA Festival 2010!
The amazing Jason Overby contributed the story Shark…his frantic pen lines are bursting with energy and tension.
Jennifer Tong’s story Virtual Date is sad, bittersweet, and moving, and complemented by her beautiful rendering.
José-Luis Olivares contributes First Flower, a metaphysical tale framed by lovely composition and forms.
Emily Wieja’s story Mirror employs bold shapes and splashes of negative space to evoke a stark atmosphere.
The covers will actually be black with gold foil transfer in place of the yellow above, for a striking effect. You can snag a copy at MoCCA for only $5- after that the cover price will go up to $7 and will be available for online ordering.

[...] I’m heading down to NYC for the MoCCA Comic Festival this weekend. Come see me at the CCS or IKJK table and check out the variety of comics my friends and I have been making. I’ll have comics to sell at these tables, some from my shop and some not. However, my super-recent work will be featured in 3 different anthologies: My 14-page story called “First Flower” is in the latest IKJK anthology, Future. The comic began as a reaction to James Thurber’s “The Last Flower,” which can be read online here, though reading it in print is a nicer experience. “First Flower” is a time-traveling adventure that follows two hopeless romantics (one from the past, one from the future) who are obsessed with a tulip-shaped flower. I had a great time playing with page-layout and panel-repetition in this story. Above is page 7 from the comic. Read more about the anthology here. [...]
